Seeds of Hope - October 2007
Anna Ray
Well Seeds continues to get bigger and better with the opening of a second school! It will be situated in one of the poorer areas of the Peruvian capital, Cusco. Seeds are currently meeting with the local community to identify suitable children, and are hoping to start the first term in October. A volunteer centre is also opening in the city centre to provide accommodation for volunteers (like you guys!) and classrooms from which they will offer English language classes to the local community.
Meanwhile in Huaraz the children have been busy making Christmas cards. Our money has been invested in a little fundraising scheme to make money by selling these very artistic cards! A local artist spent an afternoon with the kids to demonstrate basic drawing techniques and look what they achieved! They have produced 400 packs which will be sold in Christmas markets around Europe, and through friends and volunteers. Get your orders in quick if you want a pack or two, they cost £4 for 10 cards (just reply to this email with your order, or you can email me at spannaray@hotmail.com). Note - Anna needs to recieve any orders by Friday 9th November if possible.
Another bit of good news: Matthew Ray, one of our members, has just run the New York Marathon and is raising money for Seeds. Why everyone is talking about Paula Radcliffe I don't know? She didn't raise any money for anyone. He is hoping to raise £1350, enough to fund a years schooling for 20 children. If you would still like to make a donation, please get in touch with Anna.
