Salaam Balak Trust - October 2007Marcus Fairhurst
Through its ‘sensitization program’, SBT organizes meetings with police, railway officials, restaurant owners, rickshaw drivers, etc. to help them understand the issue of child poverty and homelessness better and discuss how the situation can be improved. Whilst we strive to keep our members informed about all the causes we support through regular feedback, we also hope you can all get involved, through relevant events at home and project visits & volunteering opportunities abroad. The exhibition and screening event (OPS SCREENING EVENT) for SBT next month should be an excellent night that can give us all a real insight into the lives of street children in India. We also plan to run a visit there next spring, spending some time with SBT in Delhi before heading off into the Himalayas for a week or so: whc.unesco.org/en/list/335 Figures from July – September of this year: New children registered with SBT: 118 Children provided with medical care: Children repatriated through SBT & Childline: 23 Children integrated into SBT shelter facilities: 20 Children provided with basic literacy training: 50
