Newsletter Q2 2008
Greetings fellow OPS’ers, albeit spectacularly late due to a combination of John learning how to become a nudist in Norway for the past 6 weeks, Alistair finishing his journalism course and preparing for Godfatherhood and Marcus losing things. Please find below all the news from our four charities plus a bit of chat about the latest and greatest at OPS…
OPS Fundraising
As many of you may know, this year we hope to complete an A-Z guide on how to set up and run your own OPS and a simple user-friendly website package to go with it. Many thanks to Len Dickinson who has kindly designed a OPS logo for this new site - cheers Len! Despite Len and many other friends of OPS being very generous in lending their time and expertise, we still need to raise money to pay for the IT guy who will build the new website. This will cost £1500. Because 100% of your monthly donations go to our charities we are looking for alternative funding for this. For those of you working for large or even mid-sized companies, many of your employers will have foundations that will make grants to good causes. These have already proved very helpful with Laura Farnborough’s company Buzzacoute, and Rachel’s KPMG making generous donations totalling £350. A big thank you to both of you and the companies involved – THANK YOU! If you or any friends or family work for a company with such a thing and could look into further helping us out that would be massively appreciated….
Whilst on the topic, our thanks also to Anthony and Moira Creed and all the revellers at the inaugural Creedfields for raising £200 for OPS at what has to have been the best shindig of the summer, even if the quality of the (alcoholically influenced…) bingo calling was questionable at best. Naming no names… It was a brilliant day and do that will not be forgotten for a long time as about 150 of us rocked out to West Cumbria's finest. For those of you unfortunate enough not to have been in attendance, all I can say is that I hope the good Doctor and his family have another such fit of generosity and entertain us again at some point in the future…luxury toilets and all! Brilliant party, see for yourselves...here and here
Now, kicking off the main event, over to our latest OPS recruit who will be running our partnership with Headway…David Croshaw…
Headway
A few months ago Marcus had told me about one of the charities that OPS donate to called Headway East London, an organization dedicated to supporting people with head injuries. He mentioned that they were moving to a new building and that finally they were able to have a large outside space with room for a garden, and as I had a background in gardening, would I be interested in taking a look...

Salaam Balak Trust
Having volunteered with SBT only in the fairly friendly climate of winter, Nick Thompson called in on the organisation in Delhi for a few days at the start of July to visit some friends, talk to the staff about some projects for later this year, and see how he would cope with the monsoon weather for a while…
