Newsletter Q1 2010

Hi everyone. Here is the first One Percent newsletter for 2010, following the recent updates after our election. It's a slightly shorter newsletter than usual after we updated you so recently, but there is news on all our charities including a very sad story from Nick Thompson about the demolition of one of the schools used by the Salaam Baalak Trust. John has some news about the latest charity we are supporting - The Choir With No Name - plus the latest developments from the Coalition and Seeds of Hope. You can also now follow One Percent through Twitter and Facebook if you are so technologically minded - more on that in the newsletter. As always, if you have any ideas/suggestions or comments about the newsletter or OPS in general, please email me at alistair@onepercentscheme.org. Click above to read on.

Newsletter Q3 2009

Hi all. Here is the third One Percent newsletter of the year with news from our four charities. Included is a piece by our man in India, Nick Thompson, on why he volunteers with the Salaam Balaak Trust. There are also reports from the recently wed John Arnold and Anna Ray. John even managed to plug One Percent in his wedding speech which was a commendable commitment to charity. Congratulations to both! They haven't let married life slow them down though and both have found out what Headway and Seeds of Hope have been up to recently. James Etchells has an update as well on the Coalition Against the Use of Child Soldiers. Again, if anyone has any ideas or comments, please email me at alistair@onepercentscheme.org. Click on the link above for the full newsletter. All the best!

Newsletter Q2 2009

Hi everyone and hope you have all been having an enjoyable summer. You are the lucky recipient of the second One Percent newsletter of the year. Read on for news on our four charities, from the Salaam Balak Trust in India to Headway East London closer to home, including opportunities for our members to get more involved with Headway and Seeds of Hope, our charity in Peru. As always, if you have any ideas, suggestions or stories for OPS, please email me at alistair@onepercentscheme.org. Click on the link above for the full newsletter and happy reading!

Newsletter Q1 2009

Hi all. Here is the first One Percent newsletter for this year with news from all our charities. The benefit of OPS donations is as clear as ever - thanks for all your donations in recent months and I hope the newsletter can give you a small taste of the difference we are making and how much more is still possible. There is also a new section on 'Charities We Like' from Marcus and we're also looking for anyone to volunteer at Headway East London and be our main point of contact with the charity - a vital part of the whole OPS ideal. Read on for more details and feedback and suggestions are always welcome. Send any emails to alistair@onepercentscheme.org.

Newsletter Q1 2008
And a good day to you all...
Apologies for the tardiness (normally we will aim to the newsletter with you a month after the end of each quarter), the last couple of months have been particularly hectic with weddings, stag do’s and the like. In the absence of our resident wordsmith who is still busy revising for his journalism exams (best of luck Alistair), Anna, James and I have cobbled together all the latest news from our various charities…and here it is…

Screening night review
For Nick Thompson's review of Novembers OPS screening night read on...

OPS SCREENING EVENT
Details of the screening event in aid of Salaam Balak Trust. Marcus has organised a screenign of Salaam Bombay, the film that kick started SBT, to be shown at the Nehru centre, London on the 19th Novemeber.

Newsletter October 2007
Bredren - The mighty OPS newsletter has returned and it has grown to quite immense proportions in the short time since the last one.

OPS Tandem Regatta

Newsletter July 2007
Yo Peeps -
Another day another dollar & as ever yours have been totting up nicely - helping folk old and young from Peru to Delhi & many others in between. The feedback we're getting from this year's partnerships is really excellent and theres some heartwarming, interesting & optimistic stuff in there, as well as some other OPS snippits - not least the promotion of our very own Alistair Kleebauer to the lofty role of OPS Media Mogul.

Whilst we're all super busy with the hecticness of the daily grind, please please make the time to have a read through. A lot of effort has gone in to getting all this stuff together and we feel it is some of the best feedback we've aver got. You all give generously to this project of ours & if we're going to continue to improve & develop its really important that we all try to keep an eye on what's going on.

Any feedback/views are therefore appreciated so feel free to innundate the lovable Mr Alistair with your comments accordingly. After all what better have you to do than sit in and read this when the weathers so crap. Take it easy - Marcus for OPS. (click on the link above to read the full newsletter)

Newsletter Apr 2007
Dear All,
Many years ago, John and I arranged to meet Marcus for a swift half in the Nottingham Student Union bar. He had something to tell us, something so mind-blowingly inspirational that he couldn’t quite get it out properly. Instead, John and I were treated to a delightful half-hour of Marcus twitching in his seat and occasionally farting out the word: “Exponential potential! Exponential potential, man!”...

White Cross Mission Update 30-07-06
Lately, our money has been going specifically towards the Children's Development Programme – a scheme which entails work-related learning for the residents of Casa St Nicholas. The programme was such a success that all but two of our orphans are now undergoing the Supported Living Programme. Click on the link above to find out more.

Volontaire Globalisation Update 30-07-06
V-Glob has been overwhelmed by the support of the One Percent Scheme and has been proudly informing others of this success – both on the website and in person – especially in the village of Nyitoe Zukpé, where positive news has been long coming and greatly needed. Our money is primarily going towards the Village Health Centre but this month r esearch has been conducted, with the help of UK engineers, into the most appropriate system of sanitation for the village. Click on the link above to find out more.

Fareshare Update 30-07-06
As part of its work to address food poverty, FareShare have developed the Eat Well Road Show food training programme, holding events around the UK. Our donations this year are being put specifically towards these roadshows - paying for at least 1 of these events.  The events are aimed at providing quality information to all people moving from hostels into their own private accommodation, giving them tips and advice on how to eat well on a budget. Click on the link above to find out more.

White Cross Mission Update 13-05-06
Needless to say, Jenny Townsend (the main trustee of the White Cross Mission) was delighted when she found out that we had re-elected WCM as one of our causes for 2006. In response, she sent a letter detailing how Casa St Nicholas has fared over the last year whilst we have supported them. Click on the link above to find out more.

Volontaire Globalisation Update 13-05-06
Perhaps one of the most important aspects of the One Percent Scheme is that – instead of piling your money into some huge multi-faceted charity such as Cancer Research and then having absolutely no idea where it goes – we support causes where we can see the tangible effects our donations are creating.
That is why we have been afforded rather a unique opportunity with the village of Nyitoe-Zukpe. Click on the link above to find out more.

Fareshare Update 13-05-06
FareShare have been going from strength to strength recently. Opening two new depots (one in Birmingham, the other in Redruth, Cornwall), they are really beginning to spread their wings and lend their fantastic idea to the whole of the UK. Click on the link above to find out more.

07.11.05 One Percent Scheme It Is …
Many thanks to all who voted on the naming of our venerable charity. After much head-scratching from the trustees over whether "One Percent Scheme" should be shortened to a simpler "One Percent", and many vociferations from Ross to the effect that the latter sounded too much like a brand of dieting drinks, it was finally decided to put the decision in the hands of the members. We were overjoyed at how quickly we received the number of emails from everyone, particularly since it stood as a positive precursor of how actively involved everyone is in our little venture. So nice one, guys. And "One Percent Scheme" it is winning by 7-3.

14.11.05 Upcoming Elections
On the 31st January, 2006, we will be holding the first official elections for which causes we specifically donate to. After going over some of the feedback we have received from our members, we have decided that the 'winning' charities will consist of one domestic charity, and two others. Details of exactly what is on offer and how to vote will follow shortly. Until then, however, we need nominations from you - so, if there are any charities you feel strongly for, please send us the details by the 31st December to ross@onepercentscheme.org

White Cross Mission Update 14-11-05
Our continued sponsorship of childrens home Casa St Nicholas is starting to bring real improvements including a clean water supply. The children have also asked for letters and photos from OPS member - for more information follow the link above.

PEPAIDS Update 14-11-05
PEPAIDS' organisation in Zambia, SAPEP has made some great achievements over the past few months including: winning an international competition run by the World Bank and gaining funding from the Dutch government to sponsor mobile HIV testing clinics. Click on the link above to find out more.
