Charities We LikeThe Youth Funding Network is a funding event for small chairites - it is a bit like the BBC's 'dragons den' but for charities instead of entrepreneurs. Held every few months in London, myself and Marcus have been along to a few and have always been really impressed with the great little charities they've found. The charities below are ones we have seen at these events. Check out ytfn.wordpress.com/ for more info and details of their next event.
Happy planting y'all. Soko Kenya www.soko-kenya.com/ really struck a chord with me, providing as it does a creative, community driven solution to the severe increase in poverty that has afflicted Kenya, and particularly this tourism dependent region of Ukunda, since 2007. The project seeks to harness the increasing global commitment to fair trade/ethical fashion, by producing stylish garments whilst guaranteeing workers a reasonable wage, humane working conditions (including a creche facility) and training opportunities. Soko Kenya is a grass root organisation that is making real strides. A more detailed proposal concerning their immediate plans/needs can be found on their website.
