Newsletter 02 - November 2004

Dear All
After a somewhat stagnant summer that can partially be blamed on nice beaches and cheap SE Asian beer but was mostly down to our being scattered all over the place ( and maybe a hint of laziness somewhere amongst that too ) The One Percent Scheme is back on track and ready to roll.

WEBSITE
The much hyped 'great website' that we have been promising people for quite a while is finished and does look pretty decent. A great deal of effort went into it, especially given the fact that Roderick (His official title) and I are not the most technologically gifted kids on the block. The problem has been getting everything uploaded onto our domain name www.onepercentscheme.com due to our computer guy going AWOL. We eventually gave him up m.i.a. and got someone else on the case (at no expense to the scheme) so the pages will be posted on our new dot org site soon.
Just for now here is the temporary link so you can have a peruse and see what you think, http://www.mycgiserver.com/~onepercent/ Send us some feedback, as now would be a good time to make any changes – before we officially launch on the dot org site. Jimi...you can just text me with the abuse to save you the trouble of mailing it eh.

2ND QUARTER DONATION – OVER £200
Thank you to those who donated money for the 2nd quarter donation – we donated a total of just over £200 - split equally between our three causes and gratefully received by each.
The RDT sent us some of their photographs taken on their last visit to oversee the operation of the disabled persons association over there so it's nice to see where our funds are going – some of these are posted on the website.
PEPAIDS (the UK fundraising bit) has provided support for SAPEP (the operation in Zambia) to start its own fundraising. Four new donors have been found, including the Dutch government. The extra funding has allowed it to almost double the number of people on the ground and reach every community with the two districts SAPEP operates.
More info on all 3 organisations is on the website.

NEXT DONATION
We have had to scrap the 3rd quarter donation due to our lack of summer activity – which brings us to our main problem at the moment. With everyone currently donating on a one off basis when we stop chasing people up for money, everything stops. This obviously isn’t sustainable and we need to start using standing orders for those of you with regular income. Our next date is Dec 31st so if you could all let us know what you're up too, whether and to what extent you are up for being involved that would be great.
Quite a few of us are involved in work of some sort or another by now so this is when the scheme can really begin to lift off and hopefully get us over 1000 pounds/year target that will enable us to officially register ourselves as a charity. Some of us are going to give a certain amount to cover any work we did in the summer so if you want excellent, however we understand that you didn't receive anything from us during that time so if you want to start from this last quarter thats no problem. We’ll try and contact you all individually but it really would be much better if we could hear back from you first. Just a brief mail letting us know what your situation is would be great.

Hope all is well with everyone, working, studying or skanking off the state and parents (Bigballs, hope returning to the breast hasn't been too rough) and those of us who have finally had to take the plunge into some career or another are not feeling too hard done by. We look forward to hearing back from you in the near future.

Marcus, Roderick and Johnson for THE ONE PERCENT SCHEME
