30.07.06 White Cross Mission
Update
Lately, our money has been going specifically
towards the Children's Development Programme – a scheme
which entails work-related learning for the residents of
Casa St Nicholas. The programme was such a success that
all but two of our orphans are now undergoing the Supported
Living Programme. Click on
the link above to find out more.
30.07.06 Volontaire Globalisation
Update
V-Glob has been overwhelmed by the support of the One Percent Scheme and has
been proudly informing others of this success – both on the website and in person – especially
in the village of Nyitoe Zukpé, where positive news has been long coming
and greatly needed. Our money is primarily going towards the Village
Health Centre but this month r esearch has been conducted, with the help
of UK engineers, into the most appropriate system of sanitation for the village. Click
on the link above to find out more.
30.07.06 Fareshare Update
As part of its work to address food poverty, FareShare have developed the Eat
Well Road Show food training programme, holding events around the UK. Our donations
this year are being put specifically towards these roadshows - paying for at
least 1 of these events. The events are aimed at providing quality information
to all people moving from hostels into their own private accommodation, giving
them tips and advice on how to eat well on a budget. Click
on the link above to find out more.
13.05.06 White Cross Mission Update
Needless to say, Jenny Townsend (the main trustee of the White
Cross Mission) was delighted when she found out that we had
re-elected WCM as one of our causes for 2006. In response,
she sent a letter detailing how Casa St Nicholas has fared
over the last year whilst we have supported them. Click on
the link above to find out more.
13.05.06 Volontaire Globalisation
Update
Perhaps one of the most important aspects of the One Percent Scheme is that – instead
of piling your money into some huge, faceless charity like Cancer Research and
then having absolutely no idea where it goes – we support causes where we can
see the tangible effects our donations are creating.
That is why we have been afforded rather a unique opportunity with the village
of Nyitoe-Zukpe.

13.05.06 Fareshare
Update
FareShare have been going from strength to strength recently. Opening two new
depots (one in Birmingham, the other in Redruth, Cornwall), they are really beginning
to spread their wings and lend their fantastic idea to the whole of the UK. Click

07.11.05 One Percent Scheme It Is
Many thanks to all who voted on the naming of our venerable charity.
After much head-scratching from the trustees over whether "One
Percent Scheme" should be shortened to a simpler "One
Percent", and many vociferations from Ross to the effect
that the latter sounded too much like a brand of dieting drinks,
it was finally decided to put the decision in the hands of the
members. We were overjoyed at how quickly we received the number
of emails from everyone, particularly since it stood as a positive
precursor of how actively involved everyone is in our little venture.
So nice one, guys. And "One Percent Scheme" it is winning
by 7-3.
14.11.05 Upcoming Elections
On the 31st January, 2006, we will be holding the first official
elections for which causes we specifically donate to. After going
over some of the feedback we have received from our members, we
have decided that the 'winning' charities will consist of one
domestic charity, and two others. Details of exactly what is on
offer and how to vote will follow shortly. Until then, however,
we need nominations from you - so, if there are any charities
you feel strongly for, please send us the details by the 31st
December to ross@onepercentscheme.org
