14.11.05 White Cross Mission Update
This year has been a particularly good one for our friends down
at Casa St Nicholas. Ross spoke recently with Jenny Townsend,
the founder of The White Cross Mission. Just a few months ago,
Jenny went to Romania and visited all five Farm Homes, including
Casa St
Nicholas.
She has reported that, now that St Nicholas finally has an Official
Sponsor in the form of the One Percent Scheme (for a few years,
it was the only Farm Home not to have its own Official Sponsor,
leaving it as slightly more deprived than its sister-habitations),
it has made real, tangible improvements.
Of these, the water-pipes in the building have finally been replaced.
For a long time, the old pipes were rusting severely and, consequently,
contaminating the children's water. Now, however, a new system
is in place - something that, quite simply, would not have happened
without the support the One Percent Scheme has provided this last
year.
Jenny has extended not just her thanks to all members of the One
Percent Scheme for the donations we have made, but also the personal
thanks of St Nicholas' kids. These children have asked for letters
and photos of the OPS members. Ross is currently writing them
a letter in the hope of setting up a personal link. If any else
of you would like to write them a letter, please send it to Ross
either by email (ross@onepercentscheme.org),
or to his address:
